Finally, We Have Something To Cheer About Road Crossings Of The Future!

Road Crossings Of The Future

The road crossings of the future are here, and we are here to talk about it.

Most of the developed countries and particularly their capital cities are packed with technologies. Yes, some of them are literally perplexed, but most of the technologies are capable of astonishing everyone.

Is There Any Concept Exist About Road Crossings Of The Future?

If we talk about the infrastructure of the top cities around the world, then we all have been witnessing skyscrapers and the fireworks around them on new year eve, (yeah, we are talking about Burj Khalifa). There is an alluring dance of fountains, high-speed bullet trains, police using jetpacks, opening and closing of bridges, and what not? We have seen Citymapper’s smart buses to Wayfindr for blind people, but the crossroads still make us remember the reign of Queen Victoria.

Do we millennials (the generation born during 1981 to 2000) have something to cheer about road crossings of the future? You have read the title, but let’s find out more.

Here’s How A Road Crossing Of The Future Will Look

So, we are here to tell you about the road crossings of the future. We have been seeing and looking at the painted zebra crossing that fades away, and the flashing light signals, but nothing is impressive in today’s world of technology. However, some of the extraordinary minds at Umbrellium and Direct Line come together to find out that how a road crossing of the future will work?

So they have come up with the 22-metre smart crossing surface road which is responsive. By using a computer and the cameras, it displays a zebra crossing. The computer and the cameras adapt the markings on the basis of what activity is occurring on the pavement and the road.

It will look like this:

Road Crossings

What if there are a lot of pedestrians?  Don’t worry, Umbrellium and Direct Line have a solution for this situation. The zebra crossing will stretch its size in width by using the LED lights below the road to get accustomed to its display.

Smart Crossing

Suppose a ball comes on the road somehow and a boy comes on the way as well. He crosses the road without looking on its left-hand and right-hand side of the road. Now, within no time, the road will react, highlight the situation to a surrounding and car drivers, and guide the kid towards the footpath.

The street would even have the function of changing the stop distance nearby crossings and can even change the crossing layout as the road safety findings emerge.

Umbrellium founder partner, Usman Haque says that the whole effort is to match the speed of road crossings technology with the modern city technology.

Haque furthers says that pedestrian crossings were built for a dissimilar time of life and age of development. At that time, the human connection was entirely different from the city.

A Concept Only

The road crossing of the future is totally a concept right now. However, we are witnessing some smart crossings in different cities of various countries to take care of new generations. Yes, we are talking about “smombies,” do you know who they are? It is a portmanteau word for “smartphone zombies.” We need to talk about it as well.

Who Are Smombies?

Netherland’s Bodegraven city has been assessing “Plus Lightlines”. It is basically a LED strip installed on the footpath for general people staring and using their cell phones. So, the busiest people would not have to look up for traffic signal lights. The strips installed on the pavement will turn green or red. It will be the indication for the people to cross the road safely.

lightingsHawaii’s capital city Honolulu is not in a mood to do these things. Instead, they fine pedestrians who check their mails and texts while passing the road. If it is the first time, the offender has to pay $14.56 only. However, if you are that offender who likes to repeat things, then you have to pay $100.

The concept by Umbrellium is designed by keeping the smombies also in mind. So, the idea will even have a feature of crossing signals and countdown on the pavement for the people staring down.

Wrapping It Up

The concept is excellent by Umbrellium and Direct Line. We hope that we will witness this soon in our cities. However, it is depressing that every nation is growing as a smombie nation. Therefore, smart crossings will undoubtedly prove a blessing for convenience and safety.

How Will We Buy Groceries In 2050? The Ultimate Future Of Supermarkets!

future of supermarkets

Walmart is entering your home to fill up your fridge with groceries. Amazon is dropping food hauls at the doorsteps via drones, and plant-based meat is bleeding. If this is the way you are living and eating in 2017, then what can you expect to have in 2020 or 2050? What will be the future of supermarkets?

The Food loves Tech (FLT) is an industry city expo which allows you to test drive food technologies from field and sea to the next generation frontier. There was an expert panel who answered some important questions about food supply including the way we will buy groceries in 2050.

Mike Lee is the founder of the futurist food project, The Future Market, and a food product designer. His futurist food project revolves around the idea to explore how we are going to produce and shop food for the next 25 years. This project is inspiring the food industry towards more ambitious innovation and allows us to imagine the future where the concept food will become mainstream. He has an incredible vision for the future of supermarkets and the food system that is biodiverse.

Mike Lee shares some interesting thoughts about the future of grocery shopping and concept food as the next big revolution resulting from IoT.

The Idea Behind “The Future Market”

Look at what auto industry is doing with concept cars? These fictitious but very tangible things are suggesting a different future for the industry along with some bold innovations. The food industry was not adopting the tech revolution. Therefore the idea behind the future market is to create a space where a person can set aside the possibilities of today and start dreaming the prototype in the context of what he can do shortly. In this regard, Mike Lee start taking early stage technologies and trends such as cellular agriculture. The idea of cellular farming is bubbling up to unwieldy, but still, it will take time to go mainstream.

Future Of Supermarkets

In future, the whole market will be highly distributed. The grocery stores around centralized locations are shattering into pieces. We are already witnessing this pan out with things like Fresh Direct. The future of supermarkets is a very productive one. It will allow us to start producing more food at the site where it is purchased. For example, Gotham Greens in the Whole Foods in Gowanus.

According to Mike Lee, all the legacy brands are going away. More sustainable, healthy and customized products will replace all of them in the near future. The diversity and depth of the product we are looking at is much better than what we have witnessed in past. It will more transform shortly.

Challenges On The Supply Side

The food industry is moving towards the delivery of more personalized nutrition in food. It is involved in designing food to cater your health and individual needs. The future food industry will also revolve around the need and wants of people. Mike Lee suggests we will find ways to bend the nature to our will to make things happen.

Despite the pretensions of many social futurists, there is no one who can wax the lyrical with certainty about future. We don’t know how we are going to live, play and work. When it comes to considering a distant future, we all are bound by our current paradigms. This is something right regarding the future of retail. It is easy to generalize things. But we cannot anticipate the unique mix of fundamental paradigm shifts changing the fabrics of the food industry.

The Futuristic AERO Water Harvester – A Wonderful Innovation In Urban Gardening!

AERO water harvesting system

The rapid climatic changes have posed severe threats to nature’s cycle. Mainly, the swift urbanization is a significant contributor towards global warming, greenhouse effect, air pollution, water scarcity, and other global climatic issues. All these threats are attributed to the hasty deforestation taking place in favor of urbanization. With the growing global atmospheric and weather problems, people started wondering about what will be the Earth’s scenario in future! Scientists have predicted that, by 2030, there will be a further decrease of 40% in the natural water reserves. This prediction, which is seamlessly seconded by the present world situation, has created a dilemma. On one hand, people are trying to uplift urban gardening to combat the weather issues. Whereas, on the other hand, the prediction of lowered water reserves puts a question mark on how would we support urban plantation! The AERO Water Harvester is now here to answer this question.

The Revolutionary AERO Water Harvester Is A Wonderful Watering Concept

There is a lot of discussion on the internet these days regarding this futuristic device from AERO. They have claimed that they are going to put an end to the problem of water scarcity that is related to urban gardening with their water harvester.

AERO water harvester

It all started off by two young students during their research work. They had to bring forth a concept in favor of urban gardening. Janis Beinerts and Susanne Duswald introduced this concept as part of their design assignment “Creating and Taking Care of Urban Nature 2030”. The goal of the water harvester was to extract water from the humidity present in the air. Thus it eliminates the dependency on water reserves for irrigating the gardens.

The Underlying Science Behind The AERO Water Harvester Concept

The design of this unique and innovative set up aims at mining out (or ‘harvesting’) the water content present in the air. The AERO water harvester then exploits the extracted water for supplying it to the gardens and landscapes.

AERO water harvester design

The design of the apparatus comprises of a huge longitudinal cylinder that drives through solar energy. Inside the long barrel lies a polymer coated cotton matrix. This matrix absorbs water from the atmosphere through the polymer coating. The twisted movement of the matrix then harvests the water droplets from the absorbed air. The water collected in this way then gets stored within the apparatus. It is then supplied to the gardens through the magnetically connected watering hose. The harvester further bears smart dosing feeders that automatically provides the exact quantity of water to the plants or the garden. You can also adjust customized watering plans for individual plants. By doing so, you would know the precise amount delivered to the plants.

The AERO water harvester is capable of extracting up to 200L of water in one day. Whereas, the storage capacity of the PNIPAAm cotton is about 350% of its total weight.

What Can This Water Harvester Do For Us?

The AERO water harvester concept depicts the innovative thinking of the designers towards the benefit of humankind and nature. Anyone can seamlessly place these harvesters at any spot as needed. The fantastic features brought with this concept illustrate its underlying benefits. For instance,

  • It requires no external energy to derive power, since it relies on solar energy. Hence it favors energy conservation.
  • Hassle-free installation of the entire system.
  • Setting up individual gardening plans ensure smart watering.
  • Magnetic hose ensures a firm grip, hence preventing accidental detachment from the water reserve.

AERO Harvester 2030 Vision

According to the recent research by scientists, the world will be facing a total shortfall of 40% in water reserves by 2030. At that time, affording such a luxury to water large urban landscapes and gardens would be nearly impossible. Of course, no one would prefer cutting down the human supply of water for plants and greenery. This will further reverse the urban gardening activity, adding more to environmental damages.

Hence, Beinerts and Duswald came up with the idea of inventing such a method to water plants that would suffice to maintain greenery even during the near drought situations. With the AERO water harvester, you can manage to continue watering your garden without wasting the precious water resource. This water harvester is available in two different size – the AERO and the AERO mini. You can opt for any one of the two according to your preferences and the size of the garden.

Even if you are on holidays, you don’t have to worry about proper watering. The AERO water harvester will keep your garden hydrated according to the adjusted plan. This automation makes the concept genuinely desirable for the predicted 2030 situation.

However, the recent evolution of the 3D industry and thanks to many online tutorials resources, a 3D printer can now be accessed and used by someone who is not tech savvy.

3D Printed Body Parts

In the past few years, the 3D printers have been utilized in the firearms and food production. The medical industry has been completely revolutionized by the 3D printing job, though. The objects printed through a 3D printer have been allowing medical researchers to create way better replacement 3D printed body parts and prosthetics. From legs to noses, ears, and even faces; the medical industry has kick-started the idea of spreading happiness between impaired people all around the globe with 3D printed body parts.

In a recent event, for instance, a cancer patient was implanted with a 3D printed, precisely crafted titanium rib cage which must have poured in a new soul in the patient. Just if you want to know some more happenings related to 3D printed body parts, this is just the ideal place for you to see that 3D printing is making a difference in people’s lives.

3D Printed Body Parts

The latest smartphone era which implicates everyone to be dependent on their fingertips, losing it can have a bigger impact than a disaster. A man who belongs to Nevada printed himself a prototype fingertip as he had lost some part of his finger pointer in an accident at the workplace. The 3D printed fingertip can be seen in the picture below.

Hip Joints

3D Printed Body Parts

Hip Joints are the essential part of a human leg which help a person in walking and standing on his own feet. When a hip joint is broken, the person can be completely helpless, whether due to an injury or disorder. In late 2012, a 15 years old teen in Sweden who used to be a prey of neurofibroma, could walk again with the help of a 3D printed hip.

3D Printed Body Parts

If the skin has to be implanted due to some reason, it always had to go through a long list of tests and tissue matching. Thanks to 3D printers, now even skin is a part of the plan. A talented group of students at the University of Toronto came up with an aim to help the burn patients. They developed and successfully tested 3D printed skin grafts back in 2014 on mice.

Jaw Bones

3D Printed Body Parts

The face is the most important and a jaw is essential for giving a face a look it deserves. In the Netherlands, the first ever 3D printed jawbone was implanted in an 83 years old woman in 2012.

3D Printed Body Parts

Many times it happens that people lose legs in accidents, due to diseases or soldiers during wars. This inspired the designer Scott Summit to come up with the idea of 3D printed prosthetic legs which look beautiful and at the same time, covers the necessity of amputees.

Eye Balls

3D Printed Body Parts

A man from Wales was brought in with the scarce need of an eyeball. He was the first to receive a 3D printed eyeball along with facial structure plates in plastic surgery.

3D Printed Body Parts

Skull is another need which can’t be fulfilled easily through donors. 3D printed skulls were first approved in 2013 by FDA.

3D Printed Body Parts

Many people are born with not properly developed ears. This necessity can be fulfilled with a 3D printed ear implant. The ears were developed for the first time in Japan this year and is made of a material which can grow like skin. Therefore, it can be implanted in premature kids as well.

3D Printed Body Parts

Just like legs, arms are also the most lost body parts in the world in different incidents. ‘Not Impossible Labs’ sent their representative Mick Ebeling to Sudan where he demonstrated how inexpensive prosthetic arms could be implanted in patients.
